3 Secrets for Ordinal Collectors, 3 Potential Grail Collections, & 3 Hot New Collections.

Ordinal inscriptions are taking off, and we are still at the beginning stages of this phenomenon. So get in now while it's still early.

After the Swaprum exit scam, I needed a break from DeFi. Unfortunately, scammers are making DeFi investors rekt left and right. And like many others, I took it on the chin when that team left town with my precious liquidity pools. So, for the past two weeks, I have ventured out of the toxic DeFi waters and immersed myself more in the Ordinals universe.

I’m extremely excited with the progress I’ve seen on the Ordinal front. More adoption, bigger collections, higher floors, and stronger communities are growing daily in this space. And what started as a corner in the Bitcoin world is now growing into an industrial-sized space giving Ethereum NFTs real competition.

Here are a few things I like about the Ordinals opportunity and why I’m embracing it:

  • It’s still extremely early. Ordinals started inscribing in February. However, prices are affordable, and ordinary investors and collectors can still obtain grails.

  • There are no royalties. Developers can’t just create a collection and sit and collect their royalties. They must continue developing and growing their community to cash in on their next project(s).

  • The art is unique and different. It’s not all animal-related or punk-related pieces. Ordinals are writing their own story, which is being written today.

  • The community is filled with excitement, optimism, and camaraderie. People share alpha, give tips, and are open to suggestions in most top projects.

With all this said, I wanted to share a few secrets I’ve picked up and share them with my readers. Also, I want to discuss some low inscription number projects with relatively low floors and three newer projects I’m planning to hold for a long time.

Ordinal Secret #1: Shop around for the best price

Magiceden.io is the biggest Ordinals marketplace, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that it has the best prices or selection for the project you are looking to get into. An easy way to find the different options is to visit https://bestinslot.xyz/. You can type in the name of the collection you are interested in, and it will aggregate pricing from most of the different marketplaces.

Here’s an example of a project I will discuss later in the article, Anons.

https://bestinslot.xyz/ordinals/collection/anons

This picture may be hard to see, but Ordinalswallet.com has a floor-priced Anon that is 0.0013 BTC lower than MagicEden’s floor price. This is a 19% discount. Further, you may find a piece you like more, or that is more rare on a different platform.

Ordinal Secret #2: Use this shortcut to see if you have any rare Sats

Since each Ordinal is inscribed on an individual Satoshi (the smallest fraction of a Bitcoin), some Satoshi’s have significance and rarity. Before, I used to click into each of my Ordinals individually to see if they were rare (all of mine are common). However, I recently learned about https://sating.io/.

You do not have to connect your wallet to this site. All you do is copy and paste your Ordinals receiving address, and Sating.io will let you know if any of your Ordinals have a rarity. Of course, chances are high that they won’t, but it’s better to be safe than sorry. And if you find you have a rare one, it’s probably worth a lot!

Ordinal Secret #3: Check out the project’s Discord before investing in a new project

Everyone has different goals when buying and collecting Ordinals. One person may want to flip, while another wants to hold indefinitely. Some collectors care about the art, while others want to join a community. There is no right or wrong way to collect, and it’s completely subjective.

However, I strongly encourage you to visit and check out the Discord before investing in a new project. You can tell a lot by seeing how active the Discord is. Also, it’s a great place to ask questions, learn about the project, and see if certain Ordinals are more or less desirable.

On the other hand, you can immediately spot toxic projects where the community is not supporting the project. This may represent an opportunity but should be a warning sign that holders may be more prone to sell and lower floor prices.

If the Discord community is strong, it’s indicative that there are (most likely) more long-term holders, people looking to scoop up deals, and more overall momentum in the project. But, of course, building an active online community is challenging, and some projects are either better at it or attract more communal members.

3 Potential Grail Projects Selling at a Discount

One aspect of Ordinals I love is that each has its inscription number. As we approach 10 million inscriptions, I’m certain there will be little significance between owning an inscription in the 7 million rather than the 9 million. Meanwhile, I am confident that owning a sub-50K inscription will become much more desirable.

Think about it. At the current rate, there will be over 50 million inscriptions by one year from now (probably much higher). If you own an inscription in the first 50,000, it will be in the first 0.001 of all inscriptions. Older editions are desirable and sought after regardless of what you collect.

While there are 50,000 sub-50K inscriptions, not all are in collections. I would much rather own sub-50K inscriptions part of collections for multiple reasons:

  • Stronger marketing and community to support the project

  • Easier to find in marketplaces

  • Possibility of airdrops or other collection benefits

Here are a few collections with sub-50K inscription numbers that are still reasonably priced and represent a good opportunity.

Sub-50K Ordinal Collection #1: Pokemon Pixels

Current Floor: 0.0183 BTC (approximately $500)
Inscription Range: 19,452–40,578
Collection size: 278
# of holders: 106

Everyone knows Pokemon. And there are millions of Pokemon collectors and players worldwide. So doesn’t owning a piece from the first Pokemon collection on Bitcoin make sense? And doesn’t it even seem more logical if it’s a sub-50K inscription?

I don’t know anything about Pokemon. However, when I went to the Pokemon Discord, community members were happy to share suggestions on desirable pieces. As a bonus, there are eight free giveaways in the Pokemon Pixels Discord, and you don’t need to be a holder to participate.

Sub-50K Ordinal Collection #2: Distortion by Nullish

Current Floor: 0.03 BTC (approximately $800) or 0.5 ETH (approximately $800)
Inscription Range: 24,010–44,016
Collection size: 1111
# of holders: 990

This collection began on Ethereum, and holders can burn the Ethereum NFT to claim the BTC Ordinal. Many have been bridged over and can be purchased on Ordinals marketplaces. If you choose to purchase an Ethereum version, understand that you must also purchase a claim pass to bridge it, which costs 0.3 ETH at the time of writing.

I made the mistake of buying on ETH and not realizing I needed the claim pass, so it’s probably easier to purchase on BTC marketplaces. However, it should be noted that collectors who have bridged from ETH to BTC can benefit from future drops.

This collection is animated and has SVG files. They look cooler than the screenshot above and are unique from other Ordinal collections I have seen. The community is a lot more technical than other Ordinal communities. For example, if you ask questions in the Discord, most people will refer you to links. But this group is way more knowledgeable about rarities and other Ordinal-related information.

Sub-50K Ordinal Collection #3: Tinted Shades

Current Floor: 0.03 BTC (approximately $800)
Inscription Range: 10,657–64,687
Collection size: 69
# of holders: 28
Link to the collection:https://bestinslot.xyz/ordinals/collection/distortion
Link to Twitter (No Discord): https://twitter.com/TintedShadesbtc

I’m going out on a limb with this pick. There’s no Discord. It’s a disjointed collection with 29 editions from the 10K-20K inscription range (0.03 BTC floor) and 40 editions over 60K (0.014-floor price on MagicEden).

Tinted Shades is a strictly subjective decision. Tinted Shades reminds me of a lone sailboat in a marina full of power boats. Featuring hand-drawn female portraits, I’m not surprised that the 29 inscriptions between 10K–20K haven’t all sold out.

So here’s the story. It’s sub-20K, should appeal to women, and it’s not a damn frog, ape, or punk. It’s digital art. If you don’t like it, I understand. However, with a low supply and a sub-20K inscription number, I am happy to hold this project.

It should be noted that the 10K–20K inscriptions are on Ordswap.io. This platform is a pain to use compared to MagicEden. The higher inscription pieces are on MagicEden.

3 Ordinal Collections for the more Budget-Conscious Collector

If investing between 0.02–0.03, BTC is out of your comfort range, I have you covered. There are hundreds of different Ordinal collections to choose between. However, I’ve narrowed down three hot new collections I like the most that are trading on good volume in the 0.008–0.006 BTC range.

Hot New Collection #1: Battle of BTC

Current Floor: 0.0007 BTC (approximately $20)
Collection size: 10000
# of holders: 1400
Link to the collection:https://magiceden.io/ordinals/marketplace/battle-of-btc
Link to Discord:https://discord.com/invite/frU6Ykr3kZ

This is the first 10,000 edition of GIFs on Ordinals. They have loads of rarities that can be referred to at https://www.crusadestudios.com/bob-class. And, since they were only $5 each to mint, the prices will stay subdued for an extended period. Most people minted 20 editions and will happily sell some of their collections.

The art is simple. The team doesn’t seem money-hungry, and the project is starting on the right foot. This is one of the most economical options to get your foot in the door with Ordinals.

Hot New Collection #2: NPC Ordinals

Current Floor: 0.0019 BTC (approximately $50)
Collection size: 10000
# of holders: 3000

If you haven’t been able to tell, I’m a fan of original art. Owning a punk or a copied deviation from another project doesn’t excite me. This is another 10,000-piece collection, and it still has reasonable floor prices. In the past week, there have been over 33 BTC worth of sales volume, which is insane.

The NPC (a term meaning non-player character in gaming) project has over 10,000 followers on Twitter, and they use the platform effectively. The floor price has bounced around, but at $50, I like how this project already has nice distribution (with 3,000 holders) and incredible sales volume. This could be the Crypto Punks of Ordinals. I’m unsure but will hold on to most of my NPCs.

Hot New Collection #3: Anons

Current Floor: 0.0068 BTC (approximately $190)
Collection size: 500
# of holders: 250
Link to the collection:https://bestinslot.xyz/ordinals/collection/anons
Link to Discord:https://discord.com/invite/WDhdMRNs7m

Some art pieces elicit emotions or feelings, making you impulsively want to own them. This is what the Anons collection did when I first saw it. I bought ten of these and will only sell a single one of the ten if the price does a 10x from where I purchased them. In the past few days, it’s nearly done a 2x from the floor when I first wrote about Anons.

The art is cool, but the community is even cooler. Other projects are tripping to collaborate with Anons, or the dev works extremely hard. I already won a whitelist spot on a project, Bitcoin Foxes Club, that I am excited about.

The Alpha channel for holders is constantly buzzing with ideas, and it’s where I found out about the Battle of BTC mint. Unique and original art, a dedicated community, and a rising floor price (with a low edition size). What more could you ask for in a new Ordinals project?

Key Takeaways

I anticipate Ordinals will move in conjunction with Bitcoin in the future. Since I’m bullish on Bitcoin, it’s logical to be bullish on Ordinals. These aren’t traded like a commodity, are focused on community, and breathe fresh air into the Bitcoin and crypto space.

It may not be for you, but if you’ve read this entire article (thank you, it’s long), it’s probably worth checking out some of these collections or others on MagicEden.

Also, if you have a project you want to share that I missed, please share it in the comments section. Remember this is all based on my opinion and you should also have your own. If you think these projects are garbage, please find another one you can relate to. Regardless, Ordinals will play a larger role in digital collecting in the future.

At the time of writing, I own Ordinals in all of the projects mentioned. However, I haven’t been paid or sponsored to write this piece; digital art is subjective. This information should not be taken as investment advice. Digital assets like crypto, Ordinals, and NFTs involve risk, so you should always perform due diligence before investing. Furthermore, this article is my opinion; I am not a financial advisor.
